Ayham Kamel, analyst, Eurasia Group, told CNBC, "The conflict is complex you have Bashir al Assad has some significant support in minorities and liberal Sunnis but the opposition has really gained ground, conservative Sunnis primarily in the country side have become very vocal they don't want the president to rule."
