A Congressional chairman's struggle with the VA

Mon 11 Nov 13 | 11:00 AM ET
Florida Congressman Jeff Miller's job is to approve the budget of and investigate the very institution that he says is failing America's Veterans: the Department of Veterans Affairs. As Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, he says he is fed up with the way the VA Healthcare System is run. The VA told CNBC, though, it is committed to providing the high quality care that our veterans deserve at its 1,700 facilities nationwide. But Miller says the Department of Veterans Affairs is plagued with problems that only seem to be getting worse, with little or no consequences for those in charge. The VA operates without much regard for the Chairman or his oversight committee, he says.
